Judge Peary Stafford Fowler was elected to the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit (Monroe County) bench in the summer of 2004 and has been presiding as a County Judge since January of 2005.  Judge Fowler received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami School of Law in 1988.  She received an AA from the University of Paris, France, and a B.A. from Stratford College in Danville, Virginia.  She has divided her legal experience between serving as an Assistant State Attorney for Monroe County for a period of seven years (three as supervisor of the Misdemeanor Division), followed by another seven years as a private attorney in a law practice with her husband, former Circuit Judge Richard J. Fowler at the firm of Fowler & Fowler, P.A.  Her practice concentrated on DUI defense, criminal defense, and civil litigation.  She is the past president of the local chapter of the Florida Association of Defense Attorneys and a member of the Florida Bar Association and the Monroe County Bar Association.  Judge Fowler and her husband are very active in the community of Key West and serve on numerous boards.  They will admit their most pressing job at the moment is trying to survive the raising of their teenage son!
